ATO Scam Alerts
Be wary of emails, phone calls and text messages claiming to be from the ATO.
If you think a phone call, SMS, voicemail or email is not genuine, do not reply to it. Instead, you should either:
- phone 1800 008 540 (ATO)
- go to Verify or report a scam to see how to spot and report a scam.
The ATO are concerned about a high volume of email and SMS scams pretending to be from the ATO.
These scams tell you that you’re owed an income tax repayment and ask you to click a hyperlink and complete a form.
Clicking the link takes you to a fake ATO webpage that asks for your personal identifying information, including your credit card details.
If you receive an email or SMS like this, don’t click on any links. Report the scam to (ATO)
The below email was received by one of our staff members this week. If you look at the “From” email address it looks legitimate but if you look at the “Reply-To” email address you can see straight away it’s a SCAM. The last few lines of the email look suspicious too, after “My account does me a lot of good”. The best rule of thumb is, if in doubt don’t click on any links or attachments.
