Small Business Technology Boost
As part of the budget on Tuesday night, the government announced it will support Small Businesses investing in technology. As part of the Small Business Technology Boost, the government will be giving an additional 20% claim on expenditure incurred on new technology purchased from 7:30pm on 29 March 2022 until 30 June 2023.
For eligible expenses incurred between 7:30pm on 29 March 2022 and 30 June 2022, the following applies:
- Claim the expenditure as usual in your 2021/2022 tax return
- Claim the additional 20% bonus deduction for this period in your 2022/2023 Tax Return
For eligible expenditure incurred from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023, you will be able to claim the entire 120% in your 2022/23 Tax Return.
Example:
Richard owns a plumbing company, ABC Pty Ltd, in May 2022 he has 50 employees and a turnover of less than $50 million. ABC Pty Ltd purchased laptops for 40 employees costing $80,000. ABC Pty Ltd also created a new website costing $20,000. Under the Government’s new Technology Investment Boost, ABC Pty Ltd can claim an additional $20,000 in expenses in the 2022/2023 tax year.
