Is Your Cyber Security Current?

There is no denying it, we live in a digital world. It is good practice, whether as an individual or a business, to regularly look at how you are managing and protecting your data and personal information. Can you or your business afford the financial risks associated with data loss, damage, theft, or the possible legal or reputation consequences that may arise from a data breach?

According to the latest reports from the Minister for Small Business, nearly 94,000 cybercrimes were reported to the Australian Cyber Security Centre in the last financial year costing the average business $46,000.

Cybercrimes such as False billing, Phishing, Identity theft, DDoS attacks, Remote access scams, Ransomware and Malware, are but a few, and the list grows daily.

There are 8 simple steps you can take to be cyber wise and significantly boost your cyber security:

  • Update your devices regularly
  • Turn on multi-factor authentication
  • Back up your important files
  • Use passphrases and password managers
  • Restrict administrative privileges
  • Perform regular backups
  • Educate your staff on cyber awareness
  • Make use of security software tools such as encryption, antivirus software, and patch
    applications.

Reducing risks of cybercrime and data damage through preventative measures is good
practice management and far more cost effective than the alternative – damage control.
